The night after the awards show, Smith spoke out on social media to do just that.
Smith, 53, walked onstage and hit Rock after the comedian, an Oscars presenter, told a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair.Pinkett Smith rolled her eyes in response to the joke. She has spoken openly about being diagnosed with alopecia, an autoimmune condition that causes hair loss. Demi Moore shaved her head in the 1997 movie “G.I. Jane.”
The moment stunned the audience and Oscars viewers, with some initially believing it was some kind of bit. But Rock’s reaction and the ensuing exchange, which was censored during the brodcast, quickly proved otherwise.“Wow dude,” he said to Smith. “It was a ‘G.I. Jane’ joke.”
