“There’s not going to be any major fire danger in the Bay Area (Thursday) any more than normal,” weather service forecaster Jeff Lorber said.

Winds that were expected to howl especially loudly late Thursday into Friday in the East Bay’s interior valleys, hills and mountains won’t bring any additional fire danger than normal into the Bay Area, according to the National Weather Service.

“We could have 50 mph gusts overnight in the high elevations of the East Bay and North Bay,” NWS meteorologist Jeff Lorber said. “It will be blowing.” The Coastal Range Foothills and Central Valley close to Fresno also are included in the red flag warning, which is scheduled to last until 8 p.m. Friday.“The fire danger may go up a bit from Thursday but no more than it would normally after a day of wind has dried things out a bit more,” Lorber said of Friday’s expected conditions. “The red flag danger will be pretty close to zero.”

The Contra Contra Costa Fire Protection District halted their wildland live fire training at the Phillips 66 property in Rodeo and said they won’t resume it until Monday, weather permitting.
