There is currently a Status Yellow weather warning in place for low temperature and an ice warning for the entire country
The weather is due to remain cold until Thursday thanks to an Arctic airflow blast across the entire country.
Some schools in areas of Donegal and Cork have been forced to close their doors today due to the difficult conditions.The midlands have seen temperatures as low as -7 degrees, with ice and sleet developing in certain areas. Heavy snow also fell in some parts of the country such as Donegal, Cork, and some areas of Kerry and Sligo.
Met Eireann updated their Winter Weather Advisory, which is in place until midnight on Thursday, January 20th. "Staying cold until later Thursday with an Arctic airflow in across the country, bringing sharp to severe frosts and icy stretches on roads and footpaths," they said."Further updates to the advisory and warnings are expected in the coming days."
