Ireland's recent mild weather is expected to take a turn as snow and ice return with an Arctic storm approaching. Temperatures may plummet as low as -6°C.

Snow , ice, and sub-zero temperatures could return to Ireland within days, according to recent weather charts and data. Ireland experienced a recent cold snap, with temperatures plunging to -7.6°C in Athenry, Co. Galway, on January 8, 2025. However, a rapid shift occurred, with a balmy 15°C recorded at Finner Camp, Co. Donegal, just days later. This fluctuating weather pattern shows no signs of abating.

While experts predict milder conditions for the next 10 days, there is a possibility of snow and sub-zero temperatures returning towards the end of the week. An enormous Arctic storm is currently heading towards Ireland, as indicated by new weather maps published by the Ventusky weather app. Many cities and towns, including Dublin, Cork, and Waterford, are at risk of experiencing snowfall on Saturday, January 25. Even with the current milder conditions, thermometers are anticipated to drop next week, with feels-like temperatures potentially reaching as low as -6°C in some areas. A weather enthusiast on social media suggested that those who believe the worst of the winter weather is over might need to reconsider their outlook next week. Independent weather forecaster, Mett Jeff UK, questioned on X, 'Could we see the Beast From The East at the end of the month?' He added, 'Snow fans will be happy - Winter over, don't you believe it.' Meanwhile, Irish weather expert Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather posted on X about the arrival of milder conditions on January 12 but also highlighted the potential for a 'stormy period' towards the end of the month. 'After a cold spell, we will always be looking for the next one, or headline writers will be,' said Alan. 'Well, no sign of any significant cold in the next 10 days as this forecast of upper air temps shows. Some signals towards a possibly stormy period around 25th but uncertain this far out,' he added. In contrast, Met Eireann's outlook for the remainder of this week remains optimistic. The state forecaster predicts that while rain is expected over the weekend, mild temperatures are likely to persist.
