With the Dodgers' bats struggling, Dave Roberts is working with no room for mistakes, his own included.
The problem with that statement is Urias, partly because he is scheduled to start Game 4 on Wednesday, wasn’t the best option. And aside from having two openers before him in Game 5 against the San Francisco Giants in the NLDS, he hasn’t come out of the bullpen in 2021. The Dodgers also got a taste of what could happen in having a starter throw one relief inning a couple days before starting again as Max Scherzer had a “dead arm” and only lasted 4.
The Dodgers were in this same hole last year against the Braves in the NLCS. They came back to win that series and eventually the World Series. But circumstances change, and right now Roberts is operating this roster on a razor-thin rail with almost no room for error or mishap.
