BREAKING Awful news from Mayo where a woman has died in a tragic road traffic accident

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene of the fatal single-vehicle road traffic incident after being alerted by members of the public after a car was spotted in the river in Castlebar.Read More : Paul Mescal's mum in tears on Late Late as superstar's sister performs

In a statement to the Irish Mirror, gardaí confirmed: "At approximately 11:45pm, gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a car in the river near Hoban’s car park.Gardaí have since said her body was removed to the mortuary at Mayo General Hospital where a post-mortem will take place at a later date.

The scene is currently preserved to allow an examination to be conducted by Forensic Collision Investigators. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward. Any road users who were in the area at between 10pm and midnight, who may have camera footage is asked to make it available to Gardaí.
