Shaun Phillips preyed on the sleeping woman at his flat in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire on February 27, 2021. The 26-year-old is now behind bars after he was jailed for five years at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday.Sentencing, Judge Douglas Brown said the predator had"took advantage" of the woman while having"complete disregard" for the impact the attack would have on her.The victim had been described as"scared, shaking and constantly crying" after her ordeal.Prosecutors stated Phillips pounced on the woman while she was intoxicated, asleep and unable to consent.
"However, he has asked me to indicate that, while this is so, he does accept the finding of the jury."
