A mother-of-one fatally stabbed in Cork may have lain dead for several hours before her body was discovered, gardai believe.
It is understood that he was out with friends of his mother who were dropping him home when they came upon the incident.They found the woman lying in a pool of blood with a stab wound to her neck, in a bedroom of the house.Garda technical experts recovered a knife at the scene which was sent for forensic analysis.
He can be held for up to 24 hours before being charged or released. It’s understood that questioning was suspended overnight on Saturday so gardai could hold him until early on Sunday. Residents on the quiet cul-de-sac, which is located close to University Hospital Cork, were left shocked at the tragic events.One Indian woman who lives close to the house where the attack took place expressed her shock and sadness.
She said that every effort will be made to assist the relatives of the deceased on practical matters such as repatriation of the body to India. Seamus Twomey, who lives in Cardinal Court, said that it was “tragic news” and the “last thing you would expect to wake up to” in the estate.Councillor Colm Kelleher said his thoughts go out to the woman’s family and especially her young child at this terrible time.
