Deirdre Morley, found not guilty by reason of insanity for the deaths of her three children, has been granted 'Level 3 Leave' from the Central Mental Hospital, allowing for unaccompanied days out. This news comes as her children's father, Andrew McGinley, marks the fifth anniversary of their deaths, expressing his concerns about the lack of change in the mental health system and the risk to other children.

A woman who was found not guilty of murdering her three children by reason of insanity has been granted unaccompanied days out of the Central Mental Hospital, we can reveal.

“I have been advised of her receiving leave. Whether I agree with it or don’t agree with it, that’s their decision. “If her clinicians are deciding that she has the competency and the mental capacity to be out on unsupervised leave, then that's their decision,” he said. “As every day goes by without that, I believe that there’s still a risk to children. I’ve tried to raise that through political contacts and didn’t really get anywhere. I know it's a difficult subject, but nobody seems to have the desire to take it on.” Andrew feels a HSE review into Ms Morley’s psychiatric treatment in the lead up to the killings was not sufficient - and says policies he believes put his children in danger will only lead to other tragedies.

Like Andrew, Una Butler has been tirelessly campaigning for changes to be made to the Mental Health Act to allow a partner or spouse to be involved in the treatment of a family member suffering with their mental health. Ms Butler's husband John killed their young girls Ella and Zoe on November 16, 2010.

Andrew continues to make a difference with his organisations set up in memory of his children - from charity ‘As Darragh Did’ - which helps clubs and organisations across the country - to the ‘Snowman for Carla’ competition and his ‘Conor's Clips’ social media pages.
