Woman who received incorrect smear test result wants answers to CervicalCheck scandal
Another woman affected by the Cervical Check cancer scandal has come forward and said she wants answers as to why it happened.Speaking about the ordeal for the first time, she told Sean O’Rourke on RTE Radio 1 on Thursday how she was shocked following the revelation.
“I had my next one in 2016 which showed a borderline abnormality, a glandular borderline abnormality.“I got the news it was cervical cancer in March 2017. It was a bit of a shock.“I kind of expected in one way to get the news but because it was a month between the cone biopsy and getting the results, I thought they weren’t going to leave it a month to tell me it was cancer, so I was in shock.
“The surgery was six weeks before [our wedding] but was moved around slightly so it was meant to be a bit earlier. I was really nervous it was getting pushed closer because they tell you recovery is between six and eight weeks.“We did have a great day – a great wedding day – but it definitely had an impact on it and the build up to it. Around the couple’s first anniversary in June 2018, Jennifer received the news she was one of the women who were wrongly diagnosed.
“But the 2010 smear was upgraded to high grade squamous cells and the second one was upgraded to what they call ascus, which is typically squamous cells of undetermined significance but they couldn’t rule out high grade.
