Health Minister Stephen Donnelly will bring the long-awaited review on abortion legislation to Tuesday morning's Cabinet meeting

Concern is growing in Government that politicians will be quizzed about their views on abortion when a review of existing legislation is published this week.

READ MORE: Over 15,000 international protections applications currently pending, Simon Harris confirms Ministers will agree to publish the report at today’s meeting and will not decide on any of the measures. The report will not be published until later this week. Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Tánaiste Micheál Martin both expressed reservations about changing the legislation last week.

Senior Fine Gael sources said that some members are worried that the recommendations could be seen as the party "reneging" on commitments they made during the 2018 referendum campaign. This mostly focuses on "safeguards" being put in place to ensure that abortion would be "safe, legal and rare."
