A review of the Xiaomi 14, a compact and powerful flagship smartphone with a stunning design and impressive performance.
Xiaomi 14 is a brilliantly capable and compact flagship smartphone that was launched at MWC. I’ve been testing it out since then. But does it have enough to tempt any would-be flagship buyer to part with €1000-plus on a brand that is still establishing itself in Ireland? Read on...
The AMOLED screen is impressive too – FHD+ resolution, a 1Hz to 120Hz refresh rate and 3,000 nits of peak brightness. Everything looks crisp, colourful and vibrant. I’m a fan of the way the notification and quick settings panels are situated on either side of the selfie camera and can be pulled down easily. I also like the option to have apps floating in small windows.
The zoom camera uses 32MP in photo mode and 50MP in portrait mode, incidentally, and it is employed for macro shots. Battery experience Battery experience is another plus – you’ll get a full day even with heavy use and you get a 90W charging brick in the box that can refuel from zero to 100 percent in 35 minutes.
You get a bit of futureproofing with WiFi 7 along with 5G, Bluetooth 5.4 and NFC. There is support for the higher quality audio codecs aptX Adaptive, LDAC and LHDC 5.0. The speakers on the phone are only average, even though they are Dolby Atmos certified.
