Many Yankees are going to want to use some of the All-Star break to forget about baseball. But for BrendanKutyNJ, it's time to break out his red pen. He grades each player's season to this point, from Gerrit Cole's A to Josh Donaldson's F.
As a 22-year-old rookie, Volpe gets graded on a bit of a curve. Kudos to the Jersey guy for finding a flaw in his swing and halting questions about whether the Yankees should demote him to Triple A. He’s also been solid defensively. The early-season woes at the plate affect his grade the most. His 88 OPS+ almost seems like a major victory, considering where it was just weeks ago.What happened with LeMahieu? A hot April gave way to 2 1/2 terrible months at the plate.
Having 10 homers with 15 total hits is strange, but it could be a sign that when Donaldson makes contact, it goes a long way and that maybe he could find more consistency in the second half.Judge was on pace to nearly replicate the historic 62 home runs he hit in 2022 before he crashed into the wall making a catch at Dodger Stadium on June 3. His absence since then has only further magnified his importance to a Yankees lineup that has struggled mightily to score without him around.
