Annette Ryan claims she was unfairly dismissed after four co-workers accused her of bullying, harassment, intimidation and discrimination
A hospital worker who was sacked after being accused of bullying, harassment, intimidation and discrimination has taken a case for unfair dismissal against her former employer.
Four employees made separate complaints to management about Ms Ryan, which contained allegations that were considered to constitute bullying, harassment, intimidation and discrimination. The WRC heard that Ms Ryan had worked in the hospital for at least 10 years when a co-worker approached the site manager and made a complaint about alleged bullying in July 2023.
Ms Ryan was suspended with pay pending investigation, and told the WRC that the site manager had "frog marched" her to the door, taking her badge and telling her not to contact anyone at the hospital. A regional support manager conducted the disciplinary hearing and recommended that Ms Ryan be summarily dismissed with immediate effect. They claimed that people were afraid of her, and didn’t feel a lesser sanction was appropriate.
