With petrol and diesel motors set to be banned by 2030, soon new drivers won’t have to learn how to change gears
Young drivers won’t have to learn how to change gears in the near future, the president of the AA has said.
The number of driving tests taken in automatic cars has more than tripled since 2008 – rising from 3.8% to 13.8%, Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency data shows. Electric cars are all automatic, and with petrol and diesel motors set to be banned from 2030, more and more people think learning to drive a manual isn’t worth it.
The AA – the UK’s largest driving school – will introduce lessons specifically for electric cars for the very first time. Rather than learning how and when to change gears, students will be taught to drive with one pedal and how to conserve their battery.‘The world of cars is changing. A revolution is coming. I think younger people are beginning to realise that 2030 is really not very far away.
