19\u002Dyear\u002Dold Dakota McLeod has been completing beadwork for five years and now has a store with supplies for others to do the same.

I’m proud of my Métis heritage. Métis culture is distinct from other Indigenous people. We have our own beadwork, our own patterns and designs, and we were known as The Flower Beadwork People for the five-petal flower common in our bead work. I share my culture through these traditional patterns using the beads. I also have a space where others can learn about Métis culture and heritage, and buy products made by Métis people.

We carry a book called the Beaded Flower Métis People and it talks about the history of the five-petal flowerArticle contentWe are going to start beadwork workshops up again. We run them in the fall and winter. We’ll be running them this fall starting in late October. We ran a few last year but we had to really space everyone out with limited seats because of COVID. We also did about three Zoom meeting classes last year, and those worked well.
