Rescuers save a young girl at sea in Dun Laoghaire, crediting her puffer jacket and calm demeanor for her survival.

Rescue rs who saved a young girl at sea in Dun Laoghaire this weekend said the puffer jacket she was wearing helped her to survive.

It is not known how the child, who is believed to be seven years old, ended up in the water. The weather warnings for Storm Kathleen had expired, but the impacts were still being felt across the country. She was taken to hospital after being rescued but her injuries have been described as non-life threatening.The rescue operation was launched just before 8.30pm on Saturday as the Dun Laoghaire Coast Guard, the RNLI and Rescue 116, and other emergency services, attended the scene.

Andrew Sykes told RTE News: "When we were on the scene we saw her floating on her back with her arms out wide. "She was very calm, she was alert and awake, which really helped us to get hands onto her and back into the boat."It really hammers home the training we go through on a weekly basis to save lives at sea. This one rescue is going to stick with me for my whole life."
