Eve McCarthy, a 21-year-old student from Ireland, tragically lost her life while mountain climbing in southern Spain. She fell approximately 500 feet on the El Chorro mountain range near Malaga. Her hiking companion, a male friend, survived by clinging to a rock during the fall. Both were descending the mountain when they took a wrong turn, leading to them losing their balance and falling over a ravine.

Her body was rescued by emergency services after the alarm was raised just after 7pm on Friday.He was said to have been in a state of shock when he was rescued alive.
