Spots can be a pain to deal with, no matter where they are. Body and facial acne have similar causes, including genetics, dietary habits, stress, weight and hormonal imbalances.
Spots usually come about due to a buildup of sebum. It’s made in the glands connected to your hair follicles to add moisture to your skin and hair. When sebum and dead skin cells build up, the pore is blocked and a spot occurs. Poor hygiene or excessive sweating can also lead to body acne. While the lactic acid in sweat usually helps clear pores, if they are already blocked with dirt, oil, or dead cells, then the lactic acid may cause irritation, leading to acne.
Finally, sun exposure may also cause body acne. Skin gets seriously dehydrated when sunburned. As a result, your body produces more sebum to rebuild your skin barrier, which can clog pores in sunburned areas. The best is to find an oil-free, mineral sunscreen that is broad-spectrum, at least SPF 30+ and non-comedogenic, and always wash it off before bedtime.
