This summit marks the return of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a staunch Russian ally who was suspended from the League in 2011.
UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT VOLODYMYR Zelenskyy accused some Arab leaders of ignoring the horrors of Russia’s invasion of his country during a speech Friday at an Arab League summit in Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, Syria was one of only five countries that voted against a United Nations’ condemning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Regional capitals had gradually been warming to Assad as he has held onto power and clawed back lost territory with crucial support from Iran and Russia.Alamy Stock Photo Syrian President Assad meets with Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Jordan. Zelenskyy highlighted how the war in Ukraine has affected Muslims in the Crimean Peninsula, which was annexed by Russia in 2014.
