Alexander Zverev persevered through challenging conditions and a determined Tommy Paul to advance to the Australian Open semi-finals. The German displayed his trademark resilience, securing a 7-6(1) 7-6(0) 2-6 6-1 victory.
Alexander Zverev battled through stifling heat to reach the Australian Open semi-finals with a hard-fought victory over Tommy Paul . The German, seeded second, struggled to find his rhythm for much of the match on Rod Laver Arena but ultimately prevailed 7-6(1) 7-6(0) 2-6 6-1. Zverev admitted he wasn't playing his best, stating, 'To be honest, I should have been down two sets to love, he played better than me. I was not playing great.
' However, he showcased his resilience and brilliance in crucial moments, dominating the tiebreaks to secure the first two sets. Paul, also 27, managed to claim the third set but Zverev's intensity surged in the fourth, allowing him to comfortably wrap up the match. The win sets up a semi-final clash against either Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz, two of the biggest names in men's tennis. Zverev, who has reached nine Grand Slam semi-finals but is yet to win a major title, acknowledged the challenge ahead, saying, 'I'm up two sets to love and all of a sudden, I need only one more set, and the fourth set was definitely the best that I’ve played.'Paul, who had previously defeated Zverev twice, fought hard but ultimately couldn't sustain his early momentum. He admitted, 'He did what he always does. He picks up his level at the big moments, and my level unfortunately dropped in the big moments today.' Zverev's victory adds another chapter to his quest for a Grand Slam crown, while Paul will look to learn from this experience and continue his upward trajectory
