Irish golfer Leona Maguire launched her 2023 LPGA campaign with a commendable two-under-par 70 in the opening round of the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. Maguire, secured her spot in the tournament through her victory at the 2023 Meijer Classic, found herself tied for fourth place.

Leona Maguire kicked off her 2023 LPGA Tour season with a promising two-under-par 70 in the first round of the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Orlando, Florida. Maguire, the 30-year-old Solheim Cup star, secured her spot in the tournament thanks to her victory at the 2023 Meijer Classic, which earned her a two-year exemption into the season opener.

Playing in a limited field of 32 players, Maguire found herself tied for fourth place, showcasing the benefits of her winter training. Her round featured five birdies and two bogeys, highlighted by back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes. Although a bogey six on the par-5 ninth hole prevented her from sharing second place, Maguire remained optimistic about her performance. She praised her driving accuracy, which she acknowledged as an area of improvement from the previous season, and noted that her chipping required some fine-tuning. Maguire's solid start to the year sets her up for a successful campaign. She is also slated to participate in next week's Founders Cup. Meanwhile, A Lim Kim, the 2020 US Women’s Open champion, carded a bogey-free round of 65, fueled by seven birdies, to take a commanding four-stroke lead over Jin Young Ko and Patty Tavatanakit. Kim, who spent much of the winter focusing on physical fitness, expressed surprise at her strong performance, attributing it to her feeling great this week. World number one Nelly Korda opened with a 71, while defending champion Lydia Ko struggled to a first-round score of two-over 73
