Opera singer Wynne Evans, participating in the Strictly Come Dancing live tour, has apologized for making inappropriate and sexual comments during a photocall event. Evans' remarks, caught on camera, drew criticism and led to a reprimand from BBC bosses. This incident comes after another controversy involving Evans and his dance partner Katya Jones during their time on the main show.
Opera singer Wynne Evans has apologized for making what he described as an 'inappropriate and unacceptable' comment towards another dancer during the Strictly Come Dancing live tour launch. Evans was caught on camera at a photocall event during the tour's launch in Birmingham earlier this month using sexual language that appeared to make others uncomfortable.
He is appearing alongside his dance partner Katya Jones while Strictly goes on the road, but has now also been reprimanded by BBC bosses for his actions. \The singer was at the photocall with fellow cast members including JB Gill, Tasha Ghouri, Montell Douglas, Shayne Ward, and Jamie Borthwick, when he loudly sang out 'Go Compare,' then quipped 'Not too close to Jamie.' Next, as his fellow dancer Janette positioned herself between him and another performer, Evans referenced an explicit sexual act with the disparaging term 'spit roast,' as seen in a video shared by the Daily Mail. There were awkward chuckles from the crowd whilst the GoCompare star just grinned to himself. \Following the release of the footage, the Strictly personality issued a statement admitting he had used inappropriate language. Evans said: 'My language was inappropriate and unacceptable for which I sincerely apologise.' Following the controversial incident, the BBC has issued a sharp reprimand to Evans over the inappropriate conduct. A representative for the Strictly Live Tour and BBC Studios said: 'We were not previously aware of the remark and did not receive any complaints. We have made it very clear to Wynne that we do not tolerate such behaviour on the tour.' This comes after Evans found himself at the centre of controversy after he appeared to touch his dance partner Katya's waist in an unwelcome manner during their stint on Strictly Come Dancing, reports the Mirror. That move, deemed as cheeky by some viewers, resulted in Katya quickly swatting his hand away while on camera. Both Wynne and Katya later claimed the incident was nothing more than a 'silly inside joke,' a defence that didn't sit well with everyone. Katya found herself addressing the issue on the show 'It Takes Two', clarifying: 'Sorry Fleur , sorry, I will get onto dancing I promise but can I please first get something out of the way that I feel like overshadowed our performance for absolutely no reason and quite frankly, actually, I can't bare sitting here watching this man being portrayed as someone he's not.' She went on to strongly refute any negative portrayal of Wynne, adding, 'In fact, it couldn't be further away from the truth so I have to make this absolutely clear that this whole incident with the hand and the high five on Saturday night it was an inside joke between Wynne and I. Was it a silly joke? Yes! Was it a bad joke? Yes! ' Wynne himself then conceded: 'Yeah and I've watched it back, I can see how people may have misinterpreted it.' Katya chimed in, saying: 'Yeah but however, it was a joke and even the idea that it made me feel 'uncomfortable' or 'offended' in anyway is total nonsense. Those that have doubts, you guys have it got wrong! So hopefully this will be the end of it. You just keep making me smile, please!
