The mother eagle laid two eggs this year, one on Jan. 17 and the second on Jan. 20. Last year, the mother laid three eggs, but only two hatched. Since the nest was discovered in 2005, 27 eaglets have been raised in the nest.
The nest is situated in an American Sycamore tree on Duke Farms, about 80 feet off the ground. The chick will stay in the nest for about 10 to 12 weeks before being ready to leave.
