The aftermath of Storm Éowyn continues to impact Ireland, with thousands still without power. The ESB is working tirelessly to restore electricity, but the process is slow and challenging due to the extent of the damage. The public is urged to remain vigilant and avoid contact with fallen wires.

Over a week after Storm Éowyn devastated the country, 47,000 customers remain without power. The Electricity Supply Board ( ESB ) has been relentlessly working to restore the electricity network, successfully bringing power back to 721,000 homes, farms, and businesses. This number represents a significant decrease from the peak of 768,000 outages immediately following the storm.

As of February 4th, the ESB Networks confirmed that restoration efforts are ongoing, urging customers to regularly check the Power Check website for updated Estimated Restoration Times. The ESB emphasizes that in areas with extensive damage, these times may fluctuate as repair work progresses. They also stressed the importance of public safety, warning against approaching fallen wires under any circumstances. The ESB has received reports of individuals unintentionally getting too close to live wires, particularly in the hardest-hit regions. Fallen debris after the storm can obscure potential dangers like wires tangled in trees and branches. The ESB urges anyone who encounters downed wires or damaged electrical infrastructure to report it immediately by calling 1800 372 999 and to exercise extreme caution. To support the restoration efforts, 300 international contractors from the UK, Austria, Finland, and the Netherlands have arrived in Ireland. However, their work has been hampered by Storm Herminia, which has further complicated the situation
