Woods stood in front of a small gathering at MacGregor Park in southeast Houston.

“The reality is we have the right to exist, whether you like it or not,” Woods said. “We defend you overseas. We teach. We crunch numbers. We exist everywhere. You cannot get rid of us.” “People who are inciting violence through their words need to be held to account,” Woods said. That means calling them out in public for their words and actions, he said.

Brenda Lunger, one of the attendees at Tuesday night's event, said she felt anger and rage about the shooting.
