OAKLAND — A big rig tanker jackknifed and overturned early Friday on Interstate 880, blocking all the freeway lanes and causing a long traffic backup, the California Highway Patrol said.
A Sig-Alert for severe traffic remained in effect at 6:30 a.m., 4 1/2 hours after the wreck in the northbound direction of the freeway near the High Street exit. It was unknown immediately whether anyone suffered serious injuries.In the wake of the crash, big rigs were allowed to drive on Interstate 580, according to the CHP. It was not known when all the lanes would be open.
