Presenter Anna Geray shares her personal experiences with grief following the recent passing of her brother, alongside the passing of her father two years prior. She discusses the challenges of navigating loss while cherishing the good moments with her family.

Anna Geray , a well-known presenter, has openly discussed her experiences with grief, shedding light on the complexities of enduring two significant life losses. In March 2022, Anna's beloved father, Michael, passed away shortly after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis. Then, in November 2023, her brother, Thomas, succumbed to a sudden illness. Despite navigating the profound sadness of these events, Anna emphasizes the beautiful moments she cherishes with her husband and son.

'In the last few years, life has taught me about the best-laid plans and all that…,' she shared, reflecting on life's unexpected turns. 'I suppose one of the lessons I’ve learned is not to plan things too much because we never know what's coming up, and sometimes plans can limit you.' As she approaches the third anniversary of her father's passing, Anna admits to feeling overwhelmed with emotions during family milestones. 'I’ll see something on television that never really resonated with me before, and I’ll bawl my eyes out because it’s suddenly connected with me in a whole different way,' she revealed to Irish Daily Mail’s You Magazine. 'My husband will say, 'oh, you’re off again,' but he knows it’s a form of release. To me, crying and that release of emotion is a sign of strength, not weakness. I think it’s one of the bravest things you can do, to admit how you really feel when someone asks you.'Married to Kevin Sexton and blessed with a son named Ronan, Anna finds solace in the precious moments shared as a family. These moments, though sometimes tinged with the bittersweet pain of loss, are deeply cherished. 'We are in the midst of grief still and will be for a long time to come, and yet Ronan provides moments of happiness like when he does something for the first time or says a word,' Anna shared. 'Those moments spark joy, but sometimes I’ll catch guilty feelings. I’ll be like, oh God, I’m feeling sad, but now I’m belly-laughing at something he’s done. We need to learn how to embrace the good stuff and do it guilt-free, as that can be trickier than embracing the hard stuff and being resilient and tough.' Anna believes in the resilience of the human spirit, stating, 'We’re tougher than we give ourselves credit for, and it’s only when we go through something and come out the other side that we realise that.'Anna has been a vocal advocate for mental health and psychology, expressing a desire for a significant shift in how Irish people express their innermost feelings, particularly men. 'We massively need to change the narrative. We need young boys and men to see that showing emotions, being sensitive and in tune with yourself are massively courageous things,' she stressed. 'Hiding your emotions and pretending you’re ok, well, there’s no bravery in that. We see more people talking about mental health, but not really about how it impacts people on a day-to-day basis. I think we need more of that.'
