Authorities made the appeal after reports of a black VW Golf with UK registration plates calling to homes and businesses

Gardaí have appealed to the public to be wary after a car with UK registration plates was found calling to homes offering tarmac services.

Gardaí also warned the public to be aware of visits from bogus callers, saying that older people in particular are frequently targeted by them. Occasionally Gardaí see bogus callers telling people they are members of An Garda Síochána that are investigating counterfeit money, with the intention of then stealing people's money. Some will keep you talking at the front door while their accomplice sneaks in the back door, Gardaí say.
