Jennifer says: 'You were emotionally vulnerable following a break-up and, perhaps knowing this, he was very persistent, so please stop feeling guilty'

I slept with a married man recently, something I swore I would never do. He’s really good-looking and promised me that his marriage is all but over.

JENNIFER SAYS: I think you’ve punished yourself enough. You were emotionally vulnerable following a break-up and, perhaps knowing this, he was very persistent, so please stop feeling guilty. If anyone should feel guilty it’s this man for betraying his wife and taking advantage of you at a weak moment. You made a mistake, you’re human, now forgive yourself and move on that little bit wiser.

I met an attractive guy at a training conference recently and we got on really well. We sat next to each other all day and chatted about everything. He was just so easy to be around. Since then, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about him and wondering what it would be like to be with him rather than my boyfriend.

Rather than accuse him of doing something wrong, focus on how his behaviour is affecting you, and ask him to make some changes. Be specific and see if you can put in place practical solutions. Given what appears to be several faults, it might be reasonable to conclude that this relationship has run its course. And there would be nothing wrong in that, if it’s making you unhappy, you can end it.
