Dave Mahon was due to stand trial at Leitrim Circuit Criminal Court in Carrick-on-Shannon today over an alleged assault in the town more than two years ago
The stepfather of missing teenager Amy Fitzpatrick has had his assault case adjourned again – because a key Garda witness became a dad to twins.
He told the court the key garda witness’ wife had given birth to twins earlier in the morning and he would not be available at all this week.Defence counsel Peter Nolan BL then asked for the case against Mr Mahon to be struck out as it had been adjourned on seven previous occasions. But he added: "I am going to mark it as peremptory."
Mr Mahon was accompanied to the hearing by his wife Audrey, the mother of Amy Fitzpatrick, who was 15 when she disappeared almost 16 years ago. Amy was last seen walking from her friend Ashley Rose's house at around 10pm on New Year's Day, 2008, walking in the direction of her home, where she lived with her mother Audrey and stepfather.
