Beloved Dublin bakery chain Thunders has announced its closure with immediate effect after nearly 60 years in business.

Thunders said it will not be able to complete any cake orders that have been placed as they thanked their loyal customers for their support over the years."The company has experienced difficult trading conditions in recent months and has become unsustainable. News of Thunders' closure left many regulars heartbroken as customers paid tribute to the beloved bakery on social media.

Another customer wrote: "So sad - this was my local bakery through every part of life - when I used to visit there with my grandparents as a young girl, then living in Drumcondra and having a lovely cake treat with my family then as my Dad got older and I moved away - coming home and getting our lunch from there - so much history and so sad for everyone involved - lovely team and fabulous cakes.
