Andrew Porter: 'When we went against the world champions that day, we took a lot of encouragement. We took a lot from that game'
Andrew Porter says Ireland will take confidence from how their scrum went against the powerhouse Springboks when they last collided. But Finlay Bealham stepped in and played a stormer as Ireland's scrum effort helped push Andy Farrell's side on to victory. It felt like an important step in the development of Ireland's scrum. “Yeah, look I think especially when they’re still the world champions," said Porter.
"It’s obviously not just the front row who are playing their part. Everyone has to be on their game on the day. "We’ve had a complete buy-in from all of the forwards and even a few of the backs have come into a few of the scrum sessions if they need to.Nevertheless Ireland will be wary of a Boks backlash at the set piece and Porter is clear on what makes their scrum so effective in terms of winning penalties.
"They look at the scrum for penalties and they look to get territory off that but they’re incredible scrummagers all the time across the board.
