The body of an unidentified man was found in a steel shed in Co Donegal, Ireland. Gardai are investigating the cause of death.

This is the tragic scene at which a man’s body was found in Co Donegal yesterday. The man’s remains were found in this steel shed which is adjacent to a cottage which has remained vacant for a number of years in the Dundrain area of Burnfoot, close to the border with Derry. The remains of the unidentified man were found in the shed around 2.30pm. It is still not known who found the man’s remains at the property.

He was taken to University Hospital Letterkenny where a post mortem is expected to be carried out on the body today. The cause of the man’s death is still not known. Gardai say the results of their post-mortem will assist them in determining the course of their investigations. A Garda forensic team were due at the scene of the discovery of the man’s body later today. Local county councillor Jack Murray said the thoughts and prayers of the local community were with the deceased and his family. Councillor Murray stressed that it is still not known who the man is or how the man died. However, he asked the public to ensure to call in on their elderly and vulnerable neighbours during this cold snap. He said “We still don’t know who this man was or how he died but our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this time. “While we cannot say how he died, I would still like to remind people to check on their neighbours, especially those living alone during this cold snap. It only takes five minutes and many elderly people are simply terrified to come out of their homes when the weather is so bad. “That one visit could be vital and I would ask people to take those few minutes just to check on those living alone around them.” Anyone with information is asked to contact Buncrana Garda Station 074- 49320540 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111
