Brenda was open and honest about her journey to recovery, her two experiences of rehab and her relapse speaking on Red FM today - she is grateful for everyday now

Brenda Dennehy has opened up about her battle with alcohol addiction and how it almost cost her her life.

"The drinking was getting worse, and at the All-Ireland 2010 my father had bought me a ticket and they had asked me not to turn up to the match drunk. I was out the night before, and I needed the cure. In my head I knew I was doing something wrong. I turned up absolutely ossified. I was a holy show. My poor mother, she had to hold me up. I just felt like an absolute disgrace."

After this, she maintained her sobriety for years and was doing a job she loved in Red FM, until she felt her anxiety creeping in again. She began taking Xanax, which later led to her drinking alcohol again. "I thought, they don't want the quiet Brenda, they don't know her," she said. "I should have just gone home but I was like look, I'll just have vodka and coke. No one will know. In the back of my head something was like, your life is going to go out of control. I knew it from that night."
