Bev Priestman, Canada coach when Katie McCabe scored her World Cup ‘Olimpico’, has been suspended from her role.
It’s a year to the day since Katie McCabe made history in spectacular style - when she scored Ireland’s first ever Women’s World Cup goal.
“It is obviously an amazing feeling personally to score in the World Cup,” said McCabe afterwards, reflecting on her ‘Olimpico’ strike. A massive row has erupted on both sides of the Atlantic following claims that a drone had been used to film opposition coaching sessions. Reports in Canada suggest that the practice had been used as far back as the Tokyo Games, when Canada won gold by beating Sweden in the final on penalties.
“In light of these new revelations, Canada Soccer has made the decision to suspend Women’s National Soccer Team Head Coach, Bev Priestman for the remainder of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and until the completion of our recently announced independent external review.”
