Liverpool's Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham and FA Cup tie against Accrington Stanley offer Caoimhin Kelleher a chance to shine.
Liverpool ’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg against Tottenham has been confirmed for Wednesday January 8. And fitness issues in the club’s goalkeeping department aside, that looks set to be Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher ’s next chance to add to his first-team appearances so far this season. In fact, the Ireland goalkeeper will likely get a run of two games in three days, with the Reds in FA Cup action against Accrington Stanley on Saturday January 11.
Kelleher has played 13 times so far this season, with eight of those games coming in the Premier League. He enjoyed an extended run between mid-October and early December when Alisson was recovering from a hamstring injury. While he has been linked with moves away from Anfield - with Nottingham Forest posting bids during the tail end of the summer transfer window - Liverpool are unlikely to let him go before the end of this season, when Giorgi Mamardashvili joins from Valencia. Confirmation of the dates for this season’s Carabao Cup semi-finals arrived on Monday afternoon, with Liverpool returning to the scene of their 6-3 demolition of Spurs for the away leg on January 8. Then it’s back to Anfield on Thursday February 6 for the second-leg, with both games scheduled for an 8pm kick-off. Sky Sports will broadcast both games. The winners of that tie will take on either Arsenal or Newcastle in the final at Wembley on March 16.
