The brave woman opened up about her initial diagnosis, years of treatment, feeling guilty, family support, and how she thinks her loved ones will cope without her some day
Colm Hayes’ wife Anne was diagnosed with stage-four metastatic breast cancer five years ago, and she has powerfully spoken out about her diagnosis and life with the illness.
"It wasn't very big, but it was but it was enough for me to go to the doctor and get it checked. I really wasn't concerned though as I had only had a mammogram the year before," she told Rebecca Horan on the latest episode of A Little Birdie Told Me podcast. Opening up about her treatment process, she said: "My early treatment was chemo but in tablet form, and that was fine for the first two, two and a half years, and since then I've had to start full chemo because it has spread to my bowel, and then recently now I have some spotting in my liver.""I'm living with cancer, but I still can live a good quality of life, and I can and I have.
"You feel burdensome offloading to your family, a horrible guilt, I went through as well the emotions of 'it's my fault, if only I'd done this' etc. but it's nothing to do with that."
