Team is part of national 'brotherhood' reaching from coast to coast

Joe Pellegrini, an EMT-trained firefighter, safeguarded neighborhoods last year as the massive Dixie Fire chewed up more than 960,000 acres in northern California.

The Enforcers, made up of San Diego-area first responders of every stripe, open their season against the Chicago P.D. at 2 p.m. on March 19 at Kearny High School. Proceeds from the game will fund Honor Flights for military veterans. The team that was formed in 1998 shuttered after a few seasons when unforgiving financial winds silenced the whistles. It roared back to life in 2006 and never looked back.

Teams play four times each season, with the Enforcers lining up for the annual Salute to Service opener. I’ve been playing football since I can’t even remember. This is by far the best organization I’ve been with.”“When we had camp, guys were coming off 10 to 6 shifts to be there when we started at 9,” Salmon said. “These guys love football.”
