Shocking footage shows the fire ferociously combusting into flames before a loud bang rings out when the container blows up.
Alarmed residents were forced to evacuate their homes just before 6am on Wednesday, March 6, after a large explosion in Tranent, East Lothian, when an oil drum caught fire.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live he said: “When it went off it was like a bomb. In the video you can hear something that sounds like shrapnel rattling off the wall. He continued: “If we did not wake up then we could have been trapped in our flat. My wife could not sleep last night and I just keep thinking of how this may have ended differently with someone becoming seriously hurt or worse.”
