A dog breeder in Cork, Ireland, faces potential jail time after pleading guilty to animal welfare charges. The court heard horrifying details about the neglect suffered by dogs and puppies kept in appalling conditions at his property.
A dog breeder in Cork , Ireland , has been warned that he may face jail time despite pleading guilty to multiple animal welfare offenses. Judge Colm Roberts heard evidence detailing the appalling conditions in which dogs and puppies were kept at Vasyl Fedoryn's home. Inspector Caroline Faherty of the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ( ISPCA ) described the sheds where the animals were found as the worst she'd ever encountered.
Dogs were deprived of light, bedding, and water, forced to lie in their own waste, and suffered from malnutrition and dehydration. Three collie puppies were so feral they couldn't be rehabilitated and had to be euthanized, and one German Shepherd also had to be put down. Fedoryn had ample bedding and food on the property but chose not to provide for the animals. The cost of rehabilitating the rescued dogs amounted to €16,450, with kennelling costs alone reaching €13,000. Judge Roberts condemned the situation as truly appalling and convicted Fedoryn on all charges. While he decided to see a probation and welfare report before sentencing, he cautioned Fedoryn that his liberty was at jeopardy due to the severity of the offenses and adjourned the case until April 1st.
