Margret and her sister Maureen were born and raised in Cork, and after Maureen passed away in the USA, Margret wanted to bring her sister's ashes home
Margret Long is searching for her sister's ashes after a postal mix-up meant they never reached their intended destination.
On July 21, 2021, her son posted half of the ashes, as well as another parcel that contained some of Maureen's jewellery. On August 23, he went to check up on the delivery, with the US postal service confirming the packages had arrived in Ireland. An Post confirmed that the parcels did arrive in Ireland, but had then been posted to London before being sent back to the US.
"Ashes are allowed into Ireland, but they need to be in something that was x-rayed, and hers were in a small urn," Margret shared.
