Councillor 'chuffed to bits' as Darwen takeaway forced to close down after planners say 'no'

Another bid for a hot food takeaway in an East Lancashire town has been rejected by planners. Mrs Jabeen Kauser had asked Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council for backdated permission to continue to use 33 Blackburn Road in Darwen for her Mega Crunch business.

The application by Usman Parwiz Hazarboz to convert the vacant premises at 16 Market Street, Darwen, into a Dixy Chicken outlet horrified Liberal Democrat councillor Paul Browne. Darwen East ward’s Cllr Browne said: “I am chuffed to bits.“This is excellent news. It is about time the planners got to grips with these takeaway applications and said ‘enough is enough’.”

“The application refers to a retrospective change of use of the ground floor of 33 Blackburn Rd, from a café , to a hot food takeaway. During the day therefore the frontage would be a closed frontage rather than an open frontage, which individually and cumulatively with the other takeaways, would be to the detriment of the vitality and viability of the district centre.
