Neghat Khan has been chosen as the new Nottingham City Council leader
David Mellen has officially handed the leadership of Nottingham City Council over to Neghat Khan. Councillor Mellen, who has led the city council for five years,Councillor Khan was chosen to replace him during a controversial Labour selection process, which saw local councillors being left without a say.
"What Nottingham needs now more than ever is politicians ready to rise to the challenge facing us, setting a renewed vision for our city, and achieving the promises we made when we were given a clear mandate from the public at the last local election."Neghat Khan is paying tribute to David Mellen's time in office, saying that despite the difficulties he has faced during his five years in office, he has "dug in and delivered.
The executive team is much smaller than in previous years. It is understood that savings had to be made by cutting the number of portfolio holders and executive assistants.Neghat Khan has officially become the new leader of Nottingham City Council. Only three Nottingham Independent and independent councillors voted for Andrew Rule.
