New York-based Dubliner inspired by Tallaght sprint star
LAURA Weber was inspired by Rhasidat Adeleke and Sonia O’Sullivan, among many others, when designing the Team Ireland outfits for this year’s Olympics.
“Thousands of decisions, 157 hours per uniform, just to manufacture. And that doesn’t involve any of the development and ideation. It’s just a lot of intense labour and I’m embroiderer, so all the embroidery is done by hand. “We did all their fittings in Dublin about three weeks ago and we tailored everything to what they felt comfortable in, their waist band, what felt good to them, the tightness, the looseness,” she said.
Weber competed in hockey and athletics in her youth and has based part of the closing ceremony outfits on Cobh hero O’Sullivan, whose daughter Sophie runs in the 1500m later in the Games.
