A ticket carries a $25 to $75 fine, but it has no points against your license

Larry Higgs | NJ Advance Media for NJ.comEveryone has seen a car or SUV on the road that has enough snow and ice on the roof to look like a rolling vanilla-layer cake, or a vehicle with a peephole carved out that’s just big enough to see through, after a storm.to convince inconsiderate drivers to clean off winter’s frosty deposits from their vehicles before hitting the road.

We asked the state Judiciary for five years of summons statistics, which showed between 2016 and 2020, a total of 2,905 summonses were issued statewide. That’s out of a potential pool of 6.34 million drivers in New Jersey., telling drivers to make “all reasonable efforts” to remove ice or snow from the hood, trunk, windshield, windows, and roof. Trucks aren’t exempt and some trucking facilities have equipment to knock snow from the roof of a tractor trailer.

When it is issued, a ticket carries a $25 to $75 fine, but it has no points against your license, if found guilty. Of the last five years, the most summonses were issued in 2017 at 1,089 tickets. Of those, 781 were found or pleaded guilty, and 120 were dismissed, according to Judiciary records. No one was found not guilty that year.Like ski resorts, the number of tickets issued depends on the weather.
