Mr Trump said, “We don’t want to do anything to hurt Ireland, but we do want fairness and he [the Taoiseach] understands that'

US President Donald has said he does “not want to hurt Ireland” but stated he would never have let US pharmaceuticals move en masse to Ireland.

Mr Trump continued: “We do have a massive deficit with Ireland because Ireland was very smart. They took our pharmaceutical companies away from Presidents that didn't know what they were doing.“The Irish are smart people and they took our pharmaceutical companies and other companies through taxation and proper taxation.Mr Trump stated that the EU “treats the US very badly” and “has done for years”. He argued they had been “very tough” and now it was his administration’s time to hit back.

“All of a sudden Ireland has our pharmaceutical companies, this beautiful island of five million people has got the entire US pharmaceutical industry in its grasps.” The Taoiseach argued that trade between the US and Ireland is “two way street”, citing Ryanair buying and leasing aircraft and 700 Irish companies operating in the US.

He hit out at EU bureaucracy, stating that he had received planning permission for development at the site from Irish authorities, only to be told that the EU would take seven years to adjudicate.
