A couple from Donegal, Ireland, won €100,000 in the New Year's Eve Millionaire Raffle. The husband bought the winning ticket as a last-minute Christmas gift for his wife and they hid it in a book to keep it safe. Another Donegal player, part of a two-person syndicate, also won €100,000 in the same raffle.

A couple from Co Donegal have revealed the extreme lengths they went to in order to keep their winning Lotto ticket safe after they scooped a €100,000 prize thanks to last-minute Christmas gift purchase.

The couple made the trip to National Lottery HQ this week to claim their huge prize, where the wife recalled the moment her husband made the life-changing purchase. To keep their precious ticket safe before heading to Lotto HQ, the couple conjured up a unique plan. They planted decoy tickets around their house, while they kept the real winning ticket hidden in a book titled Some Mother’s Son.

The Donegal player received their winning ticket as a gift from a family member, purchased from The Bookmark, Letterkenny Shopping Centre, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. The syndicate of two discovered their incredible fortune shortly after the New Year's Eve draw, thanks to a nudge from a family member during a festive family gathering.

The two Donegal winners weren't the only Lotto players to travel to Dublin to claim their prizes, with a Meath woman also making the trip to pick up a cheque for €65,005 which she won in Telly Bingo’s Christmas Eve draw. The woman purchased her ticket from Daybreak, Market Street, Trim, Co Meath.
