Minister for Health says current handover date of October 2024 is being reviewed
Stephen Donnelly says it would take six months, after the State takes possession of the building, for Children’s Health Ireland to complete a final fit-outhas refused to give a commitment that the new national children’s hospital will be open to patients in 2025., had provided October 2024 as the date for handing over the facility to the State, but that timeline was currently being reviewed by the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board .
On the likelihood of seeing the hospital operate in 2025, the Minister said: “I’m taking my advice from the board. The board have been frustrated on several occasions. A final budget for the children’s hospital is yet to be determined, but it is estimated the final cost will surpass €2 billion. The PAC heard on Thursday that a new budget for the facility will be submitted to the Government in the coming weeks.
