A driver that struck and killed a boy last month in Kingwood was"messing with her sandwich," according to police, as she turned left and he rode his bike through the residential intersection., despite officials listing distraction as one possible cause for the crash. The case remains under investigation.
The woman, who lived in the neighborhood around Wagner Pond just on the Montgomery County line side of Kingwood south of Northpark Drive, told investigators she was driving along Kings Mill Lane, about to turn left onto Gallant Knight behind another vehicle. Once that first vehicle took the left, John Chase Delarios, 8, biked into the intersection from the sidewalk.
The woman, who told police she was distracted according to the crash report they filed on the incident, struck the boy with the left front of her car and then ran over him. She remained at the scene and cooperated with police. The T-intersection where the crash happened has stops signs in two directions, just not eastbound where the woman was coming from.
